In our opinion it is simply a matter of cost and profits. Aluminum castings come out of a form like cookies and the material is soft to machine. Aluminum is a manufacturing friendly material. Try to drill a hole through equally thick pieces of aluminum and stainless steel. It is difficult to work with stainless steel but drilling in aluminum is like drilling in butter. Stainless is the best material for strength and reliability in a saltwater environment.
